~*Pray for Sunshine*~

Its been a very dark week for our family, in the midst of happy times like Sunshine's birthday and the Day of Giving Thanks.

There is absolutely no doubt that two of our children have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  We have seen regression that we have not seen in years in our SunshineHe went back to reliving the trauma and is acting it out on others.  It is incredibly worrisome and it shows us how deep his hurts are and that he has come very far from where he was but he is capable of being thrown back into the past in a very frightening way.  

Our Day of Giving Thanks was enjoyable with undertones of deep sadness and grief for our struggling child. 

We are in the process of having Sunshine evaluated at a Trauma Assessment Center in our area...until then our life is on hold.  Things we take for granted (like doing laundry or using the restroom) are impossible right now.  Whenever the opportunity arises to strike out at another child in a violent way he is taking it.  He is sneaking about and lying, in order, to facilitate this aggression.  We are blessed he is able to receive respite visits with family so he can have a break, as well as us.

Please pray for our little guy. We don't know what has caused his rapid emotional downfall from happiness and sunshine to unexplainable violence.  Either way, we love him and can't wait to help him heal...safely!

~*The Next Day*~

When we started this adoption journey many years ago we learned that our anxious one, Sunshine, would absolutely enjoy himself when we had special plans or were out on the town.  However, the next day was "the fallout" as we call it.

When the party's over and the fun is done....Watch out!

The acting out, the behaviors, the anger, frustration, etc.  This is no surprise to many who have makes sense to us.  Our average kiddos can be a bit moody the next day, yet, they are able to get over it quickly. 

For our Sunshine this isn't always the case.  He can struggle for weeks, triggered by the end of the fun!

So, the day of his actual birthday, was the fallout day.  Its heartbreaking for us to see...We're praying that its over quickly for this little guy so he can enjoy himself!  He's utterly miserable (self-induced misery) when he's allowing anxiety to drive him.

~*Sunshine's Birthday*~

Sunshine is all boy in one respect; he loves anything with a motor.  The rustier and junkier the better!  Also, he loves dirt.  So, when asking him what he wanted for his birthday cake I was not at all surprised to hear "dirt cake" complete with gummy worms but Mom forgot to get those...still tasted quite good!
When we do birthday's around here we serve the birthday person's requested meal to them on their birthday with just us and we usually have just family over for cake and presents whenever is convenient for all of us.  

I thought a cookie tray would spread the dirt cake a bit farther, as well.

~*A Letter to my Son*~ 

Dear Sunshine,

Everyday you face many challenges.  We talk openly with you about your struggles as we aid you in overcoming them.  There are days we rejoice and days we are sad.  I think that is the dance of life...we go back and forth.  

The days of struggle are less often and less intense, for this we rejoice!  We are very proud of you, Sunshine!  

You have come so far from being a scared and skinny little 4 yr old.  Now, your just a skinny 8 yr old!  
Seriously, though, eat something will ya!

~*30 Days of Giving Thanks*~

I am a mama bear to 7 blessings.
I understand what it is to be without them and to have a quiet house.  
I am in a busy season of life...busy simply being a mother.

Instead of blogging everyday for 30 days (since I just don't have time ya'll) I will do my 30 things on one post!
  • The Lord God
  • Forgiveness for my many sins, eternal life, and grace!

  • The neighbors fence. So our children's balls don't go in their yard often prompting them to "charge" my children to get their balls back! (SCORE!)
  • For sheltering arms around my children.  (Sheltering does NOT equal isolationism. Post on this coming up).

  • That the Lord has provided for all our needs, especially with this adoption!
  • Medical care for our blessings from China!
  • Laughter! I have laughed more in the past 48 hours than I have in the last 6 *thats* what was missing from my life!
  • Swaddle blankets! Priceless piece of fabric!
  •  Underwear! Means one less diaper I have to change! (HA! I bet you thought I meant my own unmentionables that I so excitedly mentioned...I'm right aren't I?)
  • Our vacuum...cause I never have to use it! ~wink~ J.J. took over vacuuming many many months ago and I've never had to do it since! (He truly enjoys the Kirby!)
  •  Catching one of my children using their toes to do math! ~smile~ Made me laugh...again!
  • Dark Chocolate...milk chocolate makes me gag but dark chocolate deserves its OWN category!
  • Sweet potatoes and spinach...yes, I like them that much!
  • Walking in the light and being salty...Ya'll follow me?  (Matthew 5:13)
  •  You, my dear reader! I enjoy interacting online with you...yet, being honest here, I would write even if no one read it!  How awfully boring would that be? 

~*Feet, Feet, Beautiful Feet*~

Our sweet princess gal, Analina, has a clubfoot.  It was partially corrected in China, yet, they did not fully correct the deformity leaving behind a limb that only partially works.  

Analina's first appointment for her foot shed much light on what has been done, what wasn't done, and what needs to be done and, even, redone.

What's been done?

They released her Achilles tendon and they released a tendon in her foot.  She would have been an excellent candidate for the Ponsetti method of serial casting the foot to achieve correct foot position.  However, because they did not do this and considering her age she is not a candidate for this procedure.  

What wasn't fixed?
Also, because they did not correct her foot fully it rolls in and she splays it out almost like a tripodHer big toe developed a separate deformity because they allowed her to continue to hobble around like this. We are unsure if that is fixable.

What needs to be done and redone?

She needs to have her Achilles tendon rereleased.  It is incredibly tight and is pulling her foot out of alignment.  Until then we will get an off the shelf AFO (ankle foot orthotic).  Also, her right leg is shorter so she will need a lift and we need to find out if her right hip is involved, as well. 

Her right leg will always be incredibly weak with little chance of her regaining what she has lost.  We will see if therapy is even an option for her.

I am not comfortable with showing off her foot just yet...eventually we will share this part of her journey but for now we'll keep that off the web.

In researching her very limited medical records I discovered a reference to a TCS in the list of procedures done in June of 2010.  It was a very important piece to her medical history puzzle....what is TCS? Tethered Cord. My sweet little Princess has had Tethered Cord once, already.
